Dermaplaning
What It Is
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation technique in which a sterile surgical blade is held at a 45-degree angle and gently scraped across the skin surface to remove dead skin cells and fine facial hair (often called peach fuzz). The procedure takes about 30 minutes and leaves the skin smoother and brighter. There is no downtime, and the skin is immediately ready for moisturizers and sun protection.
Good Candidates
Dermaplaning works well for people with dull skin, fine lines, uneven texture, or who dislike the appearance of facial hair. It is not suitable for those with active acne, severe cystic breakouts, or very sensitive skin conditions like rosacea. A qualified provider will assess your skin type and condition before proceeding.
What to Expect
You will lie down while the provider carefully moves the blade across your face in short, controlled strokes. The sensation is gentle and painless, similar to a light scraping. Most people find the procedure relaxing, and some providers apply a soothing serum or mask afterward.
Results and Longevity
Skin appears noticeably smoother and brighter immediately after treatment. The exfoliating effect typically lasts 3 to 4 weeks, after which skin texture gradually returns to baseline. Many people schedule regular treatments every 4 to 6 weeks to maintain the results.
