Neuromodulator
What It Is
A neuromodulator is an injectable treatment that temporarily relaxes facial muscles to smooth dynamic wrinkles and lines. The most common brands are Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau. The procedure works by blocking signals between nerves and muscles, reducing the movement that causes expression lines on the forehead, between the brows, around the eyes, and other areas. Results typically appear within 3 to 7 days and continue to improve over two weeks.
Good Candidates
Neuromodulators work best for people with active expression lines, particularly those caused by repetitive facial movements like frowning or squinting. They are also used preventively by younger patients to delay the formation of deep wrinkles. A qualified provider will assess your facial anatomy, skin condition, and goals to determine if this treatment suits you.
What to Expect
The procedure is quick, typically lasting 10 to 15 minutes. A provider injects small amounts of the neuromodulator into targeted facial muscles using a fine needle. Most people experience minimal discomfort, though some describe a slight pinching sensation. No anesthesia is usually needed, and you can return to normal activities immediately.
Recovery and Aftercare
There is essentially no downtime. You may notice slight redness or minor bruising at injection sites, which usually fades within hours. Most providers recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, intense heat, and facial massage for 24 hours to allow the product to settle properly.
Results and Longevity
Smoothing of lines becomes visible within 3 to 7 days, with full results at about two weeks. The effects typically last 3 to 4 months, after which muscle movement gradually returns and lines reappear. Repeat treatments are needed to maintain results. Some people develop a slightly more resistant response over time, which your provider can address.
