Deep Plane Facelift
Deep Plane Facelift
What It Is
A deep plane facelift is a surgical procedure that lifts and repositions facial tissues at deeper anatomical layers beneath the skin. Instead of tightening only the superficial skin layer, the surgeon works beneath the facial muscle and connective tissue to reposition sagging structures. This approach is designed to address sagging jowls, marionette lines, and other signs of age-related descent in the lower face and neck.
Good Candidates
Candidates typically have moderate to significant sagging in the lower face and neck, visible jowls, or deepened marionette lines that bother them. Generally candidates are in reasonable health, have realistic expectations, and understand the commitment involved in a surgical procedure. A qualified surgeon will evaluate your anatomy and goals to determine if this approach suits you.
What to Expect
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes 2 to 3 hours. The surgeon makes incisions around the ear and hairline, then carefully lifts and repositions the deeper facial tissues. You will not be awake during the procedure, and the surgeon will explain the specific technique and incision placement during your consultation.
Recovery and Aftercare
Initial swelling and bruising peak within the first week and gradually subside over several weeks. Most people can return to light activities within 2 to 3 weeks, though strenuous activity should be avoided longer. Full healing and final results typically take several months as swelling resolves completely.
Results and Longevity
The lifting effect addresses sagging in the lower face, jowls, and neck, with results visible as swelling resolves over the following months. Results from a deep plane facelift typically last 7 to 10 years or longer, depending on individual factors and aging. The procedure does not stop the aging process, and some gradual changes may occur over time.
