Moles
Raised or flat brown growths on the skin. Bothersome or cosmetically unwanted moles can be removed, though any changing mole should first be evaluated by a doctor.
What It Is
Moles are common skin growths that range from flat to raised and typically appear brown, tan, or black. They form when melanocytes, the cells that produce skin pigment, cluster together in one area. Most moles are benign and present from birth or develop gradually over time, especially with sun exposure. Any mole that changes in appearance, size, shape, or color warrants evaluation by a dermatologist before considering removal for cosmetic reasons.
